Frequently Asked Questions
What Is a Base Flood Elevation in Florida?
The Base Flood Elevation (BFE) is the elevation of the 1% annual chance flood as shown on FEMA's Flood Insurance Rate Map. In Florida, BFEs typically range from 5–20 feet NAVD88 depending on location. New construction in AE and VE flood zones must have the lowest floor elevated to or above the BFE plus required freeboard (typically 1–2 feet). Use our ElevationCalc FL calculator to determine the required finished floor elevation for your property.
